چکیده

Refrigerant mass migration and redistribution are regarded as key factors affecting the cycling perfor mance of air conditioning and refrigeration systems. A dynamic model of an R134a automotive air conditioning system is presented as an example in this paper to capture the refrigerant migration during compressor shut-down and start-up operations. Model validation against experimental data demon strates the capabilities of the modeling approach in predicting the refrigerant mass migration among the components during shut-down, and the resulting refrigerant redistribution behaviors during start-up. These results represent the first refrigerant mass migration prediction in a validated dynamic system model. In addition, the potential of the dynamic modeling method in performance evaluation for possible product designs and control implementation for system cycling performance improvement is discussed in this paper.

Evaluation of Transient Refrigerant Migration Modeling Approach on Automotive Air Conditioning Systems

Automotive air conditioning systems are subject to constantly changing operation conditions and steady state simulations are not sufficient to describe the actual performance. The refrigerant mass migration during transient events such as clutch-cycling or start-up bas a direct impact on the transient performance. It is therefore necessary to develop simulation tools which can accurately predic...

Refrigerant Migration Modeling During Shut-down And Start-up Cycling Transients

Refrigerant mass migration and redistribution have been regarded as factors influencing the performance of air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This paper presents a dynamic model of an R134a automotive A/C system that is able to capture the shut-down and start-up cycling dynamics including the refrigerant mass migration transients. Building upon recent work (Li and Alleyne, 2010), the h...

Thermal modeling of mini-channel and laminated Types evaporator in mobile air conditioning system

In this paper, mini-channel type evaporator which is new in mobile air conditioning (MAC) or automotive air conditioning (AAC) systems is thermally modeled. The performance of mini-channel evaporator is also compared with the laminated evaporator which is being currently used in automotive industries. The mini-channel evaporator was constructed of two rows of parallel flow mini-channel tubes...

Refrigerant Mass and Oil Migration During Start-up Transient

A comparison of the start-up cooling capacities for an automotive R744 and an automotive R134a air conditioning system is presented. It is shown that development of the cooling capacities during start-up can be described with one correlation for both systems. The comparison of the cooling capacities and the redistribution of refrigerant mass during start-up suggest a strong relationship between...

Sustainability of Automobile Air- Conditioning System Using Refrigerant R1234yf Instead of R134a

Air conditioning refrigerant R134a has value of global warming potential (GWP) 1300, which is much higher than MAC Directive (GWP below 150) passed in July 2006. This prompted a search for alternative refrigerant with GWP value less than 150. R1234yf is a new refrigerant which has lower GWP value of 4. Effect of blower speed has been compared and flammability issue of R1234yf has been addre...
